Privacy Policy

SmartMeme (“the App”) · Effective date: April 6, 2026 · English (U.S.)

This policy describes how SmartMeme handles information when you use the iOS app (including the Share extension). SmartMeme helps you organize and search memes and similar images from your photo library using optional on-device and cloud-based AI features that you configure with your own developer API keys.

Information the App accesses on your device

• Photos and media. With your permission, the App reads images and videos you import or that you choose from albums (including albums you mark for automatic scanning). Processing happens to build your local meme library, tags, and search data stored on your device.
• App settings. Preferences such as selected LLM provider, model identifiers, album selections, and related options are stored locally (for example in UserDefaults).
• API keys. If you enter Google Gemini or OpenAI API keys, they are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device and are not transmitted to us.

When data leaves your device

SmartMeme does not operate its own backend for tagging or search. If you enable AI features and provide a valid API key, image data and related text (for example prompts for labeling, or text you search with) may be sent directly from your device to the provider you selected:

• Google Gemini (Google AI / Google Cloud APIs), when you use a Gemini API key — see Google’s Privacy Policy and applicable Google AI terms.
• OpenAI, when you use an OpenAI API key — see OpenAI’s Privacy Policy and API terms.

What those providers log or retain is governed by their policies and your account with them, not by this App’s developer. You can stop such transfers by removing your API keys or disabling use of those features.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not require you to create an account with us to use the App.
• We do not receive your API keys or a copy of your photo library on our servers (the App has no such central service for core functionality as described above).

Security

API keys are stored using the device Keychain with accessibility appropriate for local secrets. You should protect your device passcode and Apple ID. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.

Children

The App is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information in a way that concerns you, contact us using the information below.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
